1920s TRADING CARDS

You have been hired by the McCullough Trading Card Company to create trading cards with colorful pictures and detailed facts about important 1920s people, places and things..

 Specifics:  You will create twelve (12) cards.  Each card will have a picture of the person, place or thing on the front and a set of a minimum of four (4) facts on the back.  You must have the 9 items in (  )  and can add 3 more 20s cards of your choosing:

Prohibition  (Al Capone)

Government (1.  Palmer’s Raids                  2. 1920s Tariffs  3.  Quota Acts)

Music, Culture and  Arts (Harlem Renaissance)

New Inventions (Automobile in the 20s)

1920s Unions (Lowering Membership)

Types of people: (1.  Fundamentalists, 2.  Nativists)

What each card needs:

 Front:  The front of the card must have a colored picture AND title of the topic of that card.  It must also ‘teach’ something about the topic.  The picture can be drawn or computer generated. The name of the person, place or thing below must be below the picture.

Back:  The back of the card has at least four interesting pieces of information about the subject, written in your own words, not copied.  Think about the 5 Ws if stuck on WHAT to put. 

 ”What do I put on it?”:

Person Cards:  Dates of birth and death, where they were born and/or where they lived, skill or talent, famous works, etc.

Place cards:  Location, architect (designer), what was the building used for/what was the city famous for; what are they famous for or used for today?

Thing Cards:  Date created/written, author, inventor or creator; importance – why do we need to know about it/how did it change the world; Art – what type of art is it? (Painting, sculpture etc)  Book – what  is it about?; Invention what does it do?  How did it make life better?

Vietnam Training Pamphlet

Create a pamphlet to inform future U.S. Soldiers of what going to war will be like. You will use the computer to help you create this. (20 points)

  • You will fold the paper into 3 sections. On the front of the pamphlet, you must have a title (i.e. An Intro to life in Vietnam as an American Soldier).
  • You must also include 2 reasons on why the United States went to war in Vietnam.
  • Inside, the pamphlet should include:
    •  4 things that a soldier would carry for protection (8 points)
    •  3 hazards that may kill the soldier (6 points)
    •  2 types of weapons the soldier may use (4 points)
    •  1 personal item the soldier may want to carry. (2 points)
  • To get full credit for each item, you must : provide a one sentence explanation of WHY the soldier should carry or be aware of your suggestion.

Type II- After creating a pamphlet and 3 questions, please write a one page, double spaced letter, as an American Vietnam Soldier. You should be writing home to your parents and the letter should describe your life.

  • Describe what you see, hear, and smell, as well as how you feel.  (5 points)
  • You should have a front size of no more than 14, double –spaced one, one FULL page. (4 points)
  • After printing out your letter, circle three areas where you talk about things you smell, hear, touch, taste, and see.  (6 points)
